The club has occupied this site for many years. About sixty members now turn up through the week — some have been here for decades, others arrived last winter. The lawns are kept up; the clubhouse has seen four roofs, three kitchens, and one piano. The piano is the most recent arrival. Visitors are welcomed at any session. Beginners are taught quietly. Saturday afternoons are the social game; Tuesday mornings are the serious one. Competition runs at all levels — within the club and across the state — but no one minds if you only want a cup of tea afterwards.
"Some people come for the croquet. Most come for the tea, and stay for the croquet."
Open Day on the first Saturday of every month. Two o'clock, sharp enough to start; we'll have the mallets and the rules and someone to walk you through both. Flat shoes are all you need.
